Plot: Charles Alderson and his wife settle in the Wyoming Territory, and form a lasting friendship with Thomas Jefferson "Windy" Gibson. Alderson's wife dies in childbirth, leaving him with an infant daughter, who he sends to Europe for an education. During the years in which she is abroad, Alderson becomes a wealthy cattle baron. The daughter, Karen, returns to Wyoming soon after it has been admitted to statehood. She finds that much of the land her father has considered as his own is now open to homesteaders, and that hostilities have broken out between the two factions. Alderson's foreman, Glenn Forrester, a former lawyer with whom Karen falls in love, warns Alderson against using violence in dealing with the homesteaders. Duke Lassiter, a smooth operator dealing in cattle rustling, sets himself up as a spokesman for the homesteaders and uses their fight with Alderson to further his own interests. When Lassister murders Windy, Alderson hires a gang of outlaws to war on the homesteaders.
Rotten Tomatoes: This western chronicles the rise of Wyoming's top cattle rancher. The tale begins with the introduction of the Homestead Act. A villain tries to turn the new settlers against the cattle baron. He then begins rustling the man's cattle. The cattleman finally gets angry and a range war ensues.

Plot: In 1871, professional gambler John Devlin elopes with Sandra "Sandy" Poli, daughter of Marko Poli, an immigrant who has risen to railroad tycoon. Sandy, knowing that the railroad is to be extended into Dakota, plans to use their $20,000 nest egg to buy land options to sell to the railroad at a profit. On the stage trip to Ft. Abercrombie, their fellow passengers are Jim Bender and Bigtree Collins, who practically own the town of Fargo and Devlin is aware that they are prepared to protect the little empire... trying to drive out the farmers by burning their property, destroying their wheat, and blaming the devastation on the Indians. Continuing their journey north on the river aboard the "River Bird', Sandy and John meet Captain Bounce, an irascible old seafarer. Two of Bendender's henchmen, Slagin and Carp, board the boat and relieve John of his $20,000 at gunpoint. Captain Bounce, chasing the robber's dinghy, wrecks his boat on a sandbar. At Fargo, the land wars begin and John teams with the wheat farmers against the Bender gang. Several attempts are made on his life and Collins tries to frame him for murder.
Rotten Tomatoes: John Wayne and Vera Hruba Ralston star as John and Sandy Devlin, young marrieds struggling to survive in Dakota territory. A footloose gambler, Devlin gets involved with a bitter railroad dispute, finding himself in the middle between a group of homesteaders and a gang of land-grabbing crooks. The film is chock full of fast action sequences (a wheatfield fire is a standout!), which nearly compensate for the performance of Vera Hruba Ralston, who is duller than usual here. Adding zest to the proceedings is the presence of frequent Wayne cohorts Ward Bond and Walter Brennan-not to mention Mike Mazurki, bizarrely cast as a fancy-dan saloon hall proprietor. Eagle-eyed viewers will spot future Baretta star Robert (Bobby) Blake as a dewy-eyed kid.

Plot: On a peaceful, pre-war winter in Czechoslovakia, the genial godfather, Jaroslav Haschek, of Vera Hascheck, presents the young girl with her first pair of ice skates. Soon, she astonished the warm-hearted people of her village with her skill, and she is acclaimed a marvel-on-ice. She wins the ice-skating championship of her country and is invited to skate at the fabulous Lake Placid Carnival in the United States. Vera receives an offer of a contract from eager showman, Carlton Webb, and his press agent Jiggers - but she turns them down. The financial backer for the two men is a wealthy, gabby, man-chasing woman called "Countess". Vera is a sensation at Lake Placid when she learns of Nazi Germany's move on Czechoslovakia, and she immediately attempts to abandon her career and rejoin her people. The trip can not be arranged and, alone in a strange country, she seeks an uncle, Carl Cermack, who has become a prosperous American citizen. The uncle welcomes her to his sumptuous Lond Island home, where he lives with his spoiled débutante daughters Irene and Susan. Vera learns that the two sisters are fighting it out over the same man, Paul Jordan, Cermack's junior partner, who isn't overwhelmed by either sister. Vera invites her uncle and cousins to join her at Lake Placid, where she is to appear in the dazzling New Year's Eve ballet. She is named "Queen" of the ballet, and Roy Rogers, a visiting movie-cowboy star is named "King." Paul begins to pick up interest in Vera, and she agrees to sign a contract with Webb, provided she can use an assumed name in his shows. Jiggers suggests they call her "Cinderella," because she has lost one of her famous skates. When Vera opens at Madison Square Garden, Jiggers plants the story that she refuses to appear until her skate is returned. Aware that Paul has kept her skate as a souvenir, Cermack telephones his partner in Texas. On the night of the opening, Webb and Jiggers are driven to desperation, since Vera has taken their publicity gag in earnest and refuses to go on unless her skate is returned. None of the phony "Prince Charmings" Jiggers has hired has the right skate, of course. The weary Vera doesn't even look at the last applicant - but the skate is hers. She stares down and recognizes her godfather, Jaroslav, who has been brought to American by her uncle. He explains that her skate was given to him by a young man. He beckons into the crowd and Paul emerges. Vera finds herself in the arms of her own Prince Charming.

Plot: When gangland lawyer Frank Hobart is murdered there are two suspects, Ilona Vanve , beautiful nightclub singer, and a hood named Stan , who has been hired by underworld boss Chad Bayliss to kill Hobart. Attracted to Ilona, Lt. Detective Roy Hargis tries to protect her in spite of the growing evidence against her and the pressure put on him by his assistant, Sergeant Lackey. Hargis thinks the case has broken when a dance-hall girl, Sandra Lamoreaux , who saw Stan at the scene of the murder, tries to use this information to blackmail him, and is badly beaten. She manages to talk to Hargis, and her story brings about Stan's capture and conviction for murder. But he didn't do it. It is now up to Hargis to either clear or convict Ilona.
Rotten Tomatoes: Nightclub singer Ilona Vance (Vera Ralston) is Accused of Murder in this Republic programmer. And from the looks of things, Ilona is guilty; she was, after all, the last person to see crooked lawyer Hobart (Sidney Blackmer) alive. But Lt. Roy Hargis (David Brian) is convinced that Ilona is innocent, and he intends to prove it. Except for the mildly surprising denoument, there is little in Accused of Murder that is not thoroughly predictable. Star Vera Ralston, the wife of Republic chieftan Herbert J. Yates, is her usual expressionless self.
